He was raised in the Cumberland Plateau. Lucas identifies strongly with his grandfather, whose sugar-white hair appeared mysteriously overnight in his 30s, which Lucas hopes will also happen to him. In his early life, Lucas had a special interest in Pokemon, which as a teenager was replaced with Halo 3, playing basketball, and watching the NBA. He concluded his high school basketball career with two hilariously niche state records. He studied journalism at the University of Tennessee ('18), then obtained an MFA in creative writing at Purdue University ('21). Along the way he delivered lawn mowers, worked as a field agent for a disability resource center, served as an academic copywriter, wrote many bad poems, lived in a ministry, lived in an artist colony, and as the punchline to a long saga that he only tells in person, slept on the floor of a police station in the Philippines for two weeks (but not because he was in trouble). After graduate school, Lucas ran a successful research program for high-schoolers, and adopted his best friend ever, [[03 Baxter]]. Currently, Lucas works as the fundraising manager of the [Michaela for Tennessee](https://www.michaelafortennessee.com/) congressional campaign.
